Texas has reclaimed the top spot as the nation’s fastest-growing state, according to the U-Haul Growth Index for 2025. The annual ranking evaluates one way customer migration data to determine where people are moving and settling across the United States.

Driven by continued population inflows, strong job growth, and business-friendly policies, Texas once again outpaced other states in net migration. Major metropolitan areas including Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio continue to attract new residents seeking economic opportunity, affordability, and quality of life.

The U-Haul Growth Index serves as a real-time indicator of migration trends, drawing from millions of U-Haul rental transactions nationwide. Unlike traditional census data, the index provides an early snapshot of where growth is occurring and how communities are evolving.

Texas’ return to the No. 1 position reflects sustained momentum across housing, infrastructure, and local development. These factors continue to shape communities throughout the state.
