Local Government Relations
Our lawyers have significant experience working with county and municipal elected officials and staff, and we effectively advocate for public participation in development and redevelopment projects. We also represent cities in structuring and negotiating economic development programs and public-private partnerships.
ABHR lawyers represent major companies and public entities in franchise, development, contractual, and regulatory matters with cities.
ABHR attorneys have extensive experience in drafting legislation and lobbying the Texas Legislature. Our clients include existing local government entities as well as those who seek to create local government entities.
For 40 years, our attorneys have been the principal drafters and lobbyists of major laws and regulations affecting water districts, tax increment reinvestment zones, municipal management districts, and other laws related to the construction of infrastructure and real estate development in Texas.
Before the Texas Legislature, we have been involved in the creation of dozens of special districts (including municipal utility districts, municipal management districts, improvement districts, and road districts), a process that includes drafting the legislation to create the district and lobbying for its passage.
