Another master-planned community is coming to Burleson’s western edge, featuring 4,000 homes, 1 million square feet of commercial space and an elementary school. The development known as Tallgrass was unanimously approved during Monday night’s City Council meeting.
Tallgrass, with an investment of over $1 billion, is a partnership between Burleson and Groundwork Development Partners, and it spans 621 acres at the Chisholm Trail Parkway and Farm Road 1902. Tallgrass is the second major housing development announced in the city in the past four months. The city of 54,000 has added 16,000 people since 2010.
Alex Philips, Burleson’s economic development director, said construction on the 20-year project should start in 2027 or 2028. Tallgrass will feature condos, single family homes and apartments. “We truly want this to be a multi-generational community,” Philips said. If someone buys a starter home and then gets a job paying more money and want a larger home, they don’t have to move out of Tallgrass,” he said. “It will be a destination to celebrate art and nature.” Besides various residential options, Tallgrass will have 5 miles of trails and 90 acres of parks.
